Newport rentals, by neighborhood

Where our homes are.

LH Newport's 33 buildings are concentrated in the walkable core of Newport, Rhode Island, with one building in neighboring Portsmouth. Here is a guide to each area we own in.

Apartments on Historic Hill & Downtown Newport

Historic Hill climbs from Thames Street up to Bellevue Avenue and holds one of the largest concentrations of 18th-century homes in the country. Our apartments here are in restored period buildings on and around Spring Street — original wide-plank floors and fireplaces alongside updated kitchens and baths. Walk to Bowen's Wharf, Washington Square and the Newport Public Library.

Apartments & duplexes on Broadway and Off Broadway

For renters who want to be in the middle of it, our Broadway homes sit above and behind the restaurants and shops of Newport's year-round main street, with Victorian two- and three-family houses on the side streets behind it. Expect one- to three-bedroom layouts, many with in-unit laundry, a few minutes' walk from downtown.

Houses & apartments in the North End

North of Broadway, the North End is a quiet residential neighborhood of single-family houses and two-family homes with yards and off-street parking. It is a short drive or bike ride to downtown, close to Miantonomi Park and the shops along West Main Road, and the first neighborhood off the Pell Bridge for anyone commuting to Providence. Our three- and four-bedroom homes are concentrated here.

Rentals in Portsmouth, RI

Fifteen minutes up Aquidneck Island, Portsmouth offers a more suburban setting with easy access to Route 24 toward Fall River and Providence. Our Portsmouth building offers larger floor plans and parking at lower rents than downtown Newport.

Renting in Newport

Newport is a year-round city of about 25,000 residents that grows considerably in summer. Most leases run twelve months and the busiest move-in windows are June and September. Many of our buildings are within the City's resident parking permit zones, and downtown is the hub for Newport's ferries, shuttles, buses and other transit options.

Every LH Newport home includes online rent payment, 24/7 maintenance requests and access to our resident portal and mobile app from day one.

FAQ

Questions renters ask us.

How do I apply for an apartment?

Open any listing above and click Apply Now. Applications are submitted and screened securely online; each adult applicant applies separately. You'll typically hear back within two business days.

Do you accept Housing Choice (Section 8) vouchers?

Yes. LH Newport welcomes Housing Choice Voucher holders and follows Rhode Island fair housing law, which prohibits discrimination based on lawful source of income.

Are pets allowed?

Pet policies vary by building and are noted on each listing. Where pets are allowed, a pet agreement and pet rent or deposit may apply.

Is parking included?

Many of our buildings include off-street parking; each listing states whether a space is included. Downtown apartments without parking are eligible for City of Newport resident parking permits.

Do you rent single-family houses and duplexes as well as apartments?

Yes. Our 99 homes include single-family houses, two-family duplexes and apartments in multi-unit buildings, from studios to four bedrooms. Use the filters on any listing to narrow by bedrooms.

Can I schedule a showing?

Yes — use the contact button on any listing, or call (401) 111-1111 or email manager@lhnewport.com with the address you're interested in and a few times that work for you.
